Improve logging

Description

The logging plugin has a log() method, but it records the output as if it were being generated in this module. It's not clear how to capture the source module of the logging event implicitly...

I'm still not sure how to setup logging properly. I'm setting this as a milestone in 2.1, since dealing with this is not blocking any current development.

I'm deferring this, but assigning it to the 2.2 release. I've looked into the logger on several occasions, but I haven't gotten the 'big picture' on how to effectively utilize it yet...
