Hudson Vista Installation FAQ

What changes have to be made when installing under Vista?

The main changes are due to the increased security settings that are enacted under Vista. None of the Java install scripts shown in the normal installation FAQ work under Vista, even when run as the local "Administrator" user. Even local users with "Administrators" group privileges will not be able to create a service.

So, how do I install the service?

Basically, follow the instructions in the FAQ and let everything break. Then, create the service (as Administrator) as follows:

sc.exe binPath= "c:\hudson\hudson-slave.exe" start= auto

If you try to use the line listed on the main Hudson wiki, it will not work, and will crash the service. Once this is successfully created, you can change the logon the same way as is presented in the FAQ.
