PICO/cplex not quitting when it runs out of memory

Reported by: bpeisle Owned by: pico-developers
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: PICO Version: PICO 1.2.1
Keywords: Cc:
Subcomponent: Testing

Description (last modified by wehart) (diff)

Running PICO with cplex as the lp solver. After running for a while, I run out
of memory and get the output included below.

Basis recovery file written to 'OsiDefaultName?.xxx'.
CPLEX Error 1001: Out of memory.
Default column names x1, x2 ... being created.
Default row names c1, c2 ... being created.
Broken LP has cplex status 0
Checking for LP bounds discrepancies for subproblem 0: 443056:
ERROR! Caught `runtime_error' exception: milpNode.cpp:587: LP Instance Broken

It seems like PICO should exit at this point, but it continues to run. It does
not produce any further output, and does not release the memory it has allocated.

This problem occured on a linux system with 2G of RAM. The problem mip being
processed was fixnet6 from miplib, and the options to PICO were:
--usingCuts=false --initialDive=false --mipHeuristic=false --preprocessIP=false

PICO had not found an incumbent yet, and had a large pool of subproblems ( >
200,000), so the out of memory error is legitmate.
