Overview

The Acro Bugzilla tool is used to track features, issues and software bugs. In the context of Bugzilla, 'bug' can refer not only to an error in existing code, but also to a desired enhancement. For example, a bug report should be submitted to Bugzilla to report a segmentation fault that occurs when using an existing Acro solver, and a bug report should also be submitted to request new Acro solver capabilities. 'Issue' and 'bug' are used interchangeably in the discussion of Bugzilla.

All bugs related to any project of Acro that uses Bugzilla should be submitted to Bugzilla or sent to acro-bugs@software.sandia.gov (see below). In particular, bugs are encouraged to document situations such as:

  1. Configuration management issues
  2. Run-time software failures
  3. Significant limitations of Acro solvers that need to be addressed
  4. Resolutions of issues that were not originally included in Bugzilla, but which have broad impact.

A bug report should be filled out with as much detail as possible. Likewise, after a bug has been resolved, the developer should also provide a description of the solution that was used.

Notes

  1. If you don't have access to the Sandia Software Bugzilla system, please send an e-mail describing the bug in as much detail as possible to acro-bugs@software.sandia.gov.

  2. Setting up a Bugzilla account
A Bugzilla account is necessary for submitting bugs directly. Those interested can sign up at the Sandia Software Bugzilla Page. To get started with Bugzilla for the first time:
    1. Go to the Sandia Software Bugzilla page.
    2. Click on 'Open a new Bugzilla account'.
    3. Enter your e-mail address and name.
    4. Check your e-mail for your new password.
    5. Sign in with your new password.
    6. Configure your password and preferences how you want them. This can be done under 'Change password or user preferences' on the main page, or under 'Edit prefs' in the footer.

  3. Filling out a Bugzilla report
    1. Go to the Sandia Software Bugzilla page.
    2. Click 'Enter a new bug report' on the main page, or 'New' in the footer.
    3. Choose the project in which you want to request a feature or report a bug/issue (or Acro if it applies to the entire Acro framework).
    4. Read the 'bug writing guidelines,' check the list of 'most frequently reported bugs,' and 'search' for the bug to see if the bug has already been submitted (in which case, it may be helpful to add a new comment to the existing report).
    5. Select the version number, component, platform, operating system, priority, and severity of the bug.
    6. Enter a concise, informative summary.
    7. Describe, in as much detail as possible, the feature you are requesting or the bug/issue you are reporting.

  4. Finding a bug with a Bugzilla query
    1. Go to the Sandia Software Bugzilla page.
    2. Click 'Query existing bug reports' on the main page, or 'Query' in the footer.
    3. Select appropriate entries from any relevant fields.
    4. Click the 'Search' button.
